Should I learn the piano or the guitar first?

I would really love to learn both eventually. But which would be a better start?

- I don’t know if this makes a difference or not…But currently I don’t have enough room for an actual piano. Would it be alright to purchase a keyboard and learn on that?

- Should I learn electric guitar or acoustic guitar first? I have both available, so should I learn them both simultaneously?

You should start out with guitar Alot of Musicians Say that Piano is alot harder

For your Guitar I would go acoustic first because it’s pretty much basic.

Piano is beautiful, i’m learning now. i tried guitar and it seemed really hard but if your passionate about music that wont matter :)
i say that you go out and get that keyboard and play right away, the more musicians we have, the better the world.

    Whichever you want.
I first learned piano when I was in elementary, and now I’m learning bass guitar. :)

Piano first, as it is the basis for all instruments, musically speaking. Once you understand how to read music, you can transfer that knowledge to any instrument with a little bit of practice. But every music major I knew in college had to spend a large amount of time practicing the Piano in addition to their specific instrument (tuba, trombone, whatever). Piano forms the base that you can build on for everything else.

And yes, a keyboard is fine. It’s much better if you can find a keyboard with full size keys, so that the transition to a real piano is that much smoother.

As for guitar, go with the acoustic first. That’s what all the great guitar players start on anyway.

Defiantly start with piano, it gives a basic understanding of the notes and how to read music, a keyboard is fine, that’s what I learned on. As for guitar, which I also play, start that after your comfortable with piano, my guitar teacher taught me how to remember guitar patterns by using a piano, which helped me a lot. Start with acoustic guitar because it carries less responsibilities and in my opinion has a better sound, as I play both myself. Acoustic guitar is also much easier to learn from as a beginner and if you chose, you can progress to play on an electric guitar, which I did.

I personally started piano first, and I think that helped give me a good musical basis to build off of, and gave a good understanding of reading and playing notes in treble and bass clef. One advantage when you’re first learning piano vs. guitar is that you don’t get the blisters that you do as a new guitar player. But that’s just something every guitarist has to go through at first. As far as elec. vs. acoustic, it doesn’t really matter which you learn first, you might as well go ahead and play both alternately. The guitar I learned on was actually a hollowbody electric which I mainly just played unplugged since I didn’t have an amp when I first started. Well good luck, learn your chords first for guitar and go from there…

I would go with the guitar and choose the one you want to play with.
